Ben Lee

CEO and Co-founder of Neon Roots

Ben Lee is the co-founder and CEO of Neon Roots, a digital development agency with a mission to destroy the development model and rebuild it from the ground up. After a brief correspondence with Fidel Castro at age nine, Ben decided to start doing things his own way, going from busboy to club manager at a world-class nightclub before he turned 18. Since then, Ben has founded or taken a leading role in 5 businesses in everything from software development to food and entertainment.

One of our most recent augmented reality projects to fly off the decks of the Neon Roots workshop is our website development and augmented reality app for Size Records. Size Records is the music label captained by Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia, the maven of electronic music.

We collaborated with the creative team over at Size Records and redesigned the entire site of SizeRecords.com with an emphasis on creating a more interactive experience for users. We also made sure to integrate SoundCloud and BeatPort because we knew what was important for this project: connecting fans and music, easily and quickly.

In the backend, Size Records wanted to preserve the communications they had already established with their fans worldwide.  We implemented a simple and confidential email service migration which preserved the nuts and bolts of the operation at Size Records and also kept all communications safe and confidential.  Our complete email migration process included transferring all past email records.

The final component in this project was to create a brand-specific augmented reality app featuring 3D technology triggered when a user’s mobile device was pointed at pre-targeted material.  We created an augmented reality experience that allows fans to explore the music and artists of Size Records through interactive 3D technology including artist profiles and sample tracks. This app was launched in the iTunes store in late March 2012.  Here are a few screenshots of our work:
